TREY

Trey is a happy, energetic, loving boy. He was on restricted activity for almost three months recovering from 2 broken legs, so he has some pent up energy to burn. Also, because of his restrictions, he wasn’t able to integrate into the household as much as his foster family would have liked. He is off restrictions now so he is starting to calm down. He will do best in a home with a fenced yard so he can run. He is eager to please and loves treats. He is a smart boy that will thrive with a family that wants to teach him his manners and tricks. He likes to snuggle and loves belly rubs. He likes chew toys, toys that squeak, and soft toys (although these don’t last long). Trey loves going for walks. Most of the time he does really well on a leash, but there are times when his excitement gets the best of him and he pulls, so he will need a home that is able to continue working with that. He has not appreciated social distancing and thinks that everyone out walking should come say hi to him. Trey loves all people, so we think he would do well with kids. He gets along with other dogs. We feel he would do fine in a home with or without other dogs, but he will need an active family if he doesn’t have any fur-siblings. He would do best with medium to larger sized dogs. He really wants to play with the little guys, but can be too rough, so if his new home has a little dog, it needs to be one that can stand up for himself/herself. Trey is kennel trained and may need a little work with house training. As he transitions out of restricted activity to being a regular member of the household, he will need some reminders on house training. We were notified about a young dog who had been laying in a ditch along a highway in Oklahoma for three days, unable to stand or walk. Our volunteers rushed him to the vet where x-rays revealed both of his rear legs were badly broken. He needed emergency care with an orthopedic specialist, all of whom were hundreds of miles away from him. We were able to locate a rescue pilot to pick him up in southern Oklahoma & fly him to Kansas where he could get the care he needed. His earth angel has named him Trey. Kansas State Veterinary Hospital did a 5 hour surgery to repair his legs. We were so grateful they were able to save both of them. His left hip ball joint was removed since it had broken off and his muscles will take over that joint. His right leg had three pins placed where it was broken just above the knee. He is continuing his physical therapy & getting regular follow-up xrays done to ensure he is healing correctly. This boy is such a trooper, even through all of his pain & suffering, his tail is still wagging and his spirits are amazing. Trey deserves the absolute best home possible. He has endured far more than any creature ever should, yet he remained happy, loving & forgiving throughout all of it. We are hoping that Trey will be ready for his forever home in June once he completes rehab. Trey is a Spaniel mix born approximately 10-11-19. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed & started on heartworm preventative. Adoption fee is $500 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
