ANDY

Hi! My Name Is ANDY

We're happy to tell you that ANDY has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

If you are looking for a loyal best friend, you have found him! Best words to describe Andy: highly intelligent, very active, attention-loving, curious, snuggle buddy. We see his ideal owner as someone (or a family) that wants a dog to be by their side through the day “helping” with work or other activities, maybe a retired person that is active around the house or someone that works from home. Andy is highly intelligent and curious. He would get bored and “naughty” if left alone all day in a kennel. He has gotten very attached to his humans and wants to be close, checking out what you’re doing. He has had great improvements with tolerating his kennel and will willingly go in with a treat if you don’t want him to free roam while you’re away for a few hours. He does frequently sleep in his kennel, but does well sleeping with his people too. He would be happiest in a home where he has a fenced yard so he can romp freely. He is not a runner, he will come back when called. He would be a good jogging buddy as he does well on leash. Andy is really smart. He has figured out how to open doors and unlocked sliders. He naturally points as well. He has quickly learned commands and is getting a lot better with his manners. He is still working on counter surfing to get left out food or dirty dishes. Andy has done great with his foster dog sister. They can play for hours. He should be introduced to other pets slowly and while leashed until comfortable and calm. He seems to have come from food scarcity. While fostered, he was fed in a separate area and slowly moved closer over time. His food is now close to his foster sister’s and he does just fine. When new, it would be better to feed separately until he gets comfortable. His anxiety comes out as naughty behavior. Give him a few months and he is the bestest boy. Andy loves all toys and chewies and especially loves tug of war with either his humans or dog buddies. Fetch with his tennis ball is a close second. Andy has loved absolutely everyone he has met except for cats, he isn't a fan of the felines. He is a big boy that likes to play, so may knock down small children. Whoever chooses Andy will be fiercely loved by a very loyal good boy.

Andy was rescued from a high intake rural outdoor shelter in Southeastern Missouri where he was on death row. There is no adoption program there, his only way out was to be rescued. Dolly's Legacy is honored to have saved his life and have promised him a happy home.

Andy is a Yellow Lab/mix who weighs 62 lbs and was born approximately 10-10-21. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed. He was provided life-saving heartworm treatment and will need to remain on monthly heartworm preventative (as all dogs should). Adoption fee is $350 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
