Chia is an elderly Chihuahua who as tiny as a peanut but has legs like a gazelle! She gives her foster mom a kiss every morning although she will need time to acclimate to a new person/family & surroundings. She wants to be a lap dog and would prefer to be the only one on the lap. Chia is a very sweet dog who isn't aggressive, but doesn't like other critters in "her" space (even if they were there first). We would call her a crochety old lady who likes what she likes (laps, yummy treats, snuggles, car rides, cuddles) with a catchphrase of "I'm so small, I'm so wee, you really want to snuggle me!" She's basically Dorothy from the Golden Girls in a Sophia size package and the love shining from her eyes will melt a cold, dead heart. She is not a fan of cats, she just growls at them, but wouldn't hurt them. Since she's half the size of any cat, they just think she's ADORABLE. As an older lady, she does have some bladder control issues. She doesn't yet know how to tell you she wants to go outside, and when she feels intimidated or overwhelmed, or sneezes too hard, a little might leak out (how many of us are nodding in understanding?). It's likely she was an outdoor dog. She would do best with a retiree or a work from home pet parent as she gets very nervous on her own. She sleeps in a sling during the day while her foster mom works from home and loves car rides. She should not ever be outside on her own as she is so tiny and could easily be carried away by a hawk or owl. She would do best with a wee tiny dog her size. Children younger than 12 are not recommended, she is too fragile to be carried by unsure hands and could inadvertently be injured.
Chia was found as a stray in Lincoln and taken to the local shelter where she went unclaimed. They reached out to Dolly's Legacy asking for help since their shelter was full. Chia is now ready for a new chapter with a forever home.
