My name is Cougar. I spent the first four years of my life in a chain link dog run with a cement floor being forced to breed, but I’ve left that life behind and I’m not looking back! I love the freedom and adventure of my new life! I love taking walks, playing with other dogs, and running. Sometimes I get so excited about these things that I think I might explode with joy. All that excitement along with my fun loving, goofy personality, expressive body language, and the fact that I’m learning how to use my body freely will have you laughing out loud. Just look at the amazing faces I make when I run! I have a lot of energy to burn so need direct access to a yard; apartment life will not work for me. Aggressive dogs in my forever home would be too scary for me, but I would love living with a fun-loving playmate who would goof around and burn energy with me. Don’t be fooled though. While my energy level is high and I can be a real goofball, I also really love snuggling with people. When I’m tired, there is nothing better than a warm lap to curl up in. And when I’m nervous or scared, I seek out human contact to help calm me. I can be nervous and timid at times because everything is so new to me. Loud noises and new spaces or experiences can be scary for me, but if I’m with someone I trust who can sooth me, I can work through my nerves. Once I figure out that I’m safe, I’m as happy and goofy as ever. In my forever home, I’m going to need someone who can patiently help me through the nervous moments. Bonus if I can jump on the furniture when I’m worried because that also helps me feel safer. I’m also going to need someone who can help me learn manners and basic commands. I don’t have a mean bone in my body so that’s not a problem, but I have never had the chance to learn good boundaries. For example, when I’m excited and playing I sometimes unexpectedly (and very quickly!) jump in laps uninvited and go all wiggly and squirrelly, or I might jump up on or bat a trusted human with a front paw to try to get a game started. I might also duck between my human’s legs when walking because I’m excited to get somewhere but also want to be close to my human. I don’t mean any harm when I do these things; I just don’t know better yet and will need help learning appropriate boundaries. I can walk on a leash and regularly take walks around the neighborhood with my foster family, but I’m so excited about life, that I do pull and dart around a bit (a no-pull harness helps). So I’ll need more practice with that as well. I am an expert at going potty outside though and have not had any accidents in my foster house. And I’m very respectful of the cat in my foster house. I’m looking for active and patient people who will love me and help me continue to learn and discover all the joys of a life of freedom. For your help, I’ll repay you with a ton of love and entertainment! Oh, and I have the softest ears my foster parents have ever seen; you won’t be able to resist touching them!
