Hi. My name is Duchess. I'll speak on behalf of myself and my son Duke. Here's our story -
My earliest memories, I was in a group of dogs that a fellow raised for hunting, way down in the SE corner of Missouri. While there, I had a litter which included Duke. Most of our group were sold to other humans. One day, our human just disappeared, and we were loose on our own.
We wandered along a highway near a lake we were familiar with. On weekends there were humans in the cabins and some of them put food out for us. Most of the time, we had to find our own food. This went on for over a year. Most humans tried to help us. Some tried to hurt us. Duke has a puncture wound in his side, but he's nearly healed now. I was hit in the face and have some broken teeth. But we survived okay until a nice lady found us and called for help. This was when we met the folks from Dolly's Legacy.
On June 15th, we went for a really long car ride and ended up in Lincoln. We were pretty nervous at first because there were so many dogs in this house, but we got to stay indoors and had our own room, so it was pretty good. And food! We got regular meals twice a day! I've counted eight other dogs here, and six of them are bigger than Duke & I. It's been a week and we're able to mix together indoors and go outside together. Duke is pretty social, but inside I like being back in my room until I get feeling better.
Here's our current condition:
Duke is acclimated now, and enjoys playing with the other dogs, although he keeps a close eye on me and doesn't run around too long before he's coming to check on me. I'll go out & do my business, but then I mostly like laying on the porch and watching the other dogs play.
We both love any humans, large or small. We didn't get much affection when we were young, and none while we were out on our own, so we have some catching up to do. We're both willing to cuddle anytime, anywhere.
Like I mentioned, we get along fine with other dogs. Our new humans were careful to integrate us cautiously, but I think they worried too much. They've had cats out near us, like we'd never seen a cat before or something. It's just a cat, no big deal.
The humans seem impressed that we haven't had any potty incidents in the house since we arrived. Seems like a simple thing to us, but hey - the humans like it. So that's good. I mean, it's really not that hard...
We do have some special needs you'll need to know about. For a while, I'm sure they will have us on a medical hold, because I am heartworm positive. Duke is not. My treatment takes three months to complete, so I will spend my summer getting healthy.

Probably the most important thing to know about us is that we are really, really, really attached to each other. We've been together every day since Duke was born, and especially all that time we were on our own, we looked out for each other. We are as bonded a pair of dogs as you will ever know. I have to ask that if you consider being the humans we can love forever, that you please take us together. Our hearts just couldn't bare being separated.
Beyond that, if you're interested in us, please put your application in with Dolly's Legacy. Our foster humans think whoever meets us will be amazed how sweet we are and what kind hearts we have.

Duchess is a Redbone Coonhound/mix who weighs 58 lbs and was born approximately 6-12-2018. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed. She is being provided life-saving heartworm treatment and will need to be retested in 6 months to ensure she is heartworm free. She will need to remain on heartworm preventative for life, as all dogs should. Duchess is bonded to her son, Duke. They must be adopted together, we will not separate them. Adoption fee is $500 as a bonded pair to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
