Meet Lilly! 🐾❤️
Sweet Lilly has endured more heartbreak in her first year of life than any pup ever should, but her resilience and spirit will absolutely steal your heart.
When Lilly first arrived from a rural shelter in Oklahoma, she was unable to bear weight on her left rear leg and had severe muscle wasting in her hind end. X-rays revealed that she had suffered horrific injuries weeks prior—including a fractured femur shaft and a hip torn from its socket—likely after being struck by a car and left without care.
Despite her rough start, Lilly recently saw a specialist at a veterinary orthopedic hospital, and she completely amazed everyone! Her doctor was perplexed because her physical exam far exceeded what her x-rays showed. Lilly was ambulating, playing, and acting like a happy, normal puppy. Her body was already well underway in compensating for her past injuries.
Because her old injuries are not repairable, the only alternative was amputation. However, since she is completely pain-free, bears weight on her left hind leg, and continues to build muscle strength, the specialist agreed that the best course of action is to simply let her be. This is just her "new normal"—and she doesn't let it slow her down for a second! The only time you might notice a slight limp is when she’s tired after a hard session of play.
Lilly is making incredible strides every day. To keep her feeling her best, it is recommended that she continue on a simple daily joint supplement (like Cosequin).
Now, Lilly is officially ready for the next chapter of her life: finding a loving family to call her very own. If you have room in your home and heart for a sweet, resilient girl who will inspire you every single day, Lilly is ready to meet you!
