*MEDICAL HOLD*
We learned of this boy sitting in a cage at the shelter in Omaha early in the afternoon. He had until 5pm that day and was going to be euthanized. We literally had a couple of hours to save him. He had been found as a stray three days earlier, unable to walk or move his hind legs. No one claimed him. Shelter resources were limited, they put out a plea to area rescues, we were the only one willing to take him into our care. Katie dropped everything and drove to get him just in time. Tara opened her home to this special needs boy without hesitation (our hero!).
His name is Lt. Dan. Today we learned why he is paralyzed. His spine is fractured and he has disc compression at multiple levels. But there is hope. On exam, he reacts to deep pain. That is a good sign. But he has a very long road of recovery ahead of him. We are going to give him every chance at making a full recovery, but it won't come easily. We had already gotten a wheelchair and personalized it for him. But his fracture is so bad he cannot use it just yet. He can only be moved with the help of a sling. Lt. Dan wants so badly to run with the other dogs and is so determined, but his recovery is at stake, so he has to remain on strict rest. He is so grateful, so loving, so gentle. He just wants to be a dog.
We are willing to do whatever it takes for Lt Dan. Nothing is out of the question. If it will help his recovery, we will do it. If it will help him walk again, we will find a way. But we will need your help to rally around this incredible little boy who didn't deserve to have such a grave injury.
Please help by sponsoring Lt. Dan's care, treatment and recovery. We spent a small fortune on him already, and will be doing laser therapy, medication therapy, physical therapy, and tending to his every need for many weeks. He is worth every penny. We won't give up on him and hope you will join us in this fight.
Lt. Dan is grateful. We at Dolly's Legacy are as well.
