Neil is a truly one-of-a-kind, about-18-month-old “velcro velvet” puppy who manages to be both active and playful and remarkably calm and gentle—an unusually sweet combination for such a young dog. In just three weeks with his foster family, he has gone from living in an outdoor kennel to excelling at indoor life, keeping his crate clean, teaching himself to use pee pads, and making impressive progress with housetraining. Neil is incredibly smart, eager to please, and deeply sensitive; he understands boundaries like “no” and “not yours,” and gentle guidance works best because his tender heart truly wants to do the right thing. He adores his 100-pound foster brother and is wonderful with cats, showing only polite curiosity around the seven resident felines. Neil prefers not to be kenneled when his people are home but settles well in his crate while they’re at work, and he has earned overnight bedroom privileges without accidents. He is currently completing heartworm treatment, with his final injection scheduled for January 6, and will need a securely fenced yard to safely enjoy the outdoors he loves. Despite a busy, lively foster home, Neil does beautifully, proving that what he needs most is love, reassurance, and closeness—he simply wants to be near his people, please them, and give his whole gentle heart in return.
