**AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION approximately 3-1-21 following heartworm treatment**  Hey y’all! My name is Ruby and I’m a cute little gal from Oklahoma. Not too long ago I found myself at a rural pound with my time almost up. I could not believe my luck when I was chosen for rescue by Dolly’s Legacy! Now that I’m safe and secure my favorite things are food, affection, and sleeping with my head under a pillow. Can you just stay home and pet me all day? My big brown eyes and soft thick fur make this a pretty appealing offer, I can assure you. I will even climb onto your lap if you let me! I’m not a very shy girl but am a bit nervous. However I’m also very smart and attentive, so a little training goes a long way in helping me settle into new situations and build confidence. I’m getting more comfortable in my foster home and every day show I am a little more confident. I used to watch the other dogs play or wait until they were done with their toys before I took a turn, but now I like to join right in on the fun. I know some basic commands and love to show them off, and when given treats I take them very gently. I have a medium amount of energy right now, but that may change once I’m feeling better after my heartworm treatment is finished. I probably had a litter of puppies at some point in my life since I was only recently spayed and I love to groom the foster puppy that lives with me. Since I'm a Heeler, I would do best with a home with kids over 10 or no kids, I would probably want to herd them. I do show some herding behavior, but mostly I’ll just herd you to the couch so you’ll sit down and pet me. Sometimes my instincts kick in towards smaller dogs, but I play really well with dogs my size or larger. I am friendly and accepting when meeting new dogs, but if they give me attitude I have no problem sticking up for myself! I would probably do best with other dogs who are calm and submissive (but still playful), but I’m willing to meet anyone to see if it’s a good fit. I’ve already done most of the hard work for you since I am house trained and kennel trained, and if you have a dog door with a fenced in yard I’ll even take myself out every time I need to. Now all I need is to find a family who will continue building my confidence through basic obedience, leash training, and positive new experiences. I have so much love to give and I can’t wait to find my forever home!   Ruby is a female Red Heeler who weighs 30 lbs and was born approximately 12-12-18. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed. Ruby is undergoing life-saving treatment for heartworm disease. She will need to remain on heartworm preventative for life, as is recommended for ALL dogs, and retested in 6 months to ensure she is heartworm free. Adoption fee is $400 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs.
