Once your application is approved, we will set up an adoption appointment with your chosen animal. That can happen as early as this upcoming weekend. Adoption events are typically held Saturdays (from 10 -1 pm) or Sunday (from 12 - 3 pm). All appointments are held at a facility we rent here in Lincoln unless circumstances require meeting at your home or the foster's home. We require meeting all members of the family, including any dogs (not cats) at the appointment. At that appointment, you will be able to meet the foster and learn all about the animal. If we are in agreement the animal is a match for you, you will take your new furry family member home that day.
Unfortunately, no. Our adoption fees do not begin to cover the costs of vetting in most circumstances. Our animals come fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, with a microchip. You'll find our adoption fees are quite affordable when pricing these necessary procedures.
We ask all adopters to be prepared to adopt the animal and take home on the day of the appointment. We cannot hold the animal after you've signed our adoption contract as it creates a liability for our foster homes. We understand sometimes you may need to think about the decision for a while. However, we cannot hold the animal while you make a decision. Our goal is to find a great home for all of our pets as soon as possible. Please feel encouraged to speak openly with us about your hesitations before and during the adoption appointment so we can mutually work out a plan.
If the dog/cat is part of a litter, we typically try to have multiple animals from the same litter. However, we generally cannot have multiple other dogs or cats at the appointment. It is stressful for the animals and difficult for the adopters to make a choice in that type of environment. It is also a significant time commitment for our foster families to bring their animals to multiple appointments. We encourage you to limit your meet and greet to the animal that strongly catches your eye. We will do our best to ensure it is a good match based on your application.
We update our website as regularly as we can. Since we hold adoption appointments on the weekends, we will update our site to remove those that were adopted on Monday or Tuesday. It is possible the pet you've applied for has a pending adoption without the website saying "pending adoption"; we do our best to inform you of that as soon as possible.
Nope! Our application is universal and not specific to any one pet; there's no need to fill out more than one. Just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about meeting another animal.
That's great! We kindly ask that you let us know so we can cease reviewing your application.
Dolly’s Legacy Animal Rescue
is a foster home based rescue in Lincoln, NE. Our mission is to save orphaned and abandoned pets from overcrowded shelters and find them loving, forever homes.
Dolly's Legacy Animal Rescue's mission is to save orphaned and abandoned pets from overcrowded shelters where they are out of time & out of hope to make it out alive. Far too many pets are facing a cruel death at high-intake, high-kill animal control facilities, some still using a gas chamber as a means of euthanasia. We rescue dogs, puppies, cats & kittens, and place them into loving foster homes while they receive all the vet care needed, including spay/neuter, heartworm testing & treatment, vaccinations, microchipping, treatment for parasites, surgical intervention, and hospitalization. Dolly's Legacy Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue group.
