Bert needs a patient, compassionate forever home that will give him time & space so he can start a new chapter in his life. Bert was surrendered to a crowded Texas shelter when his elderly owner was no longer able to care for a pet. Bert had been with the same owner since he was a puppy, so it really threw him for a loop and he is not happy about having his entire life turned upside down. He was not socialized well throughout his life, so new people, places and environments scare him into fear reacting. He can be affectionate and loving but sometimes is just crabby and wants to be left alone. Small dogs are okay but big dogs are a no. He will not be placed in a home with children as they would overwhelm him & make him nervous. Bert needs an experienced, patient home that is compassionate towards him and the unfortunate life he's lead thus far. Bert can best be described as "contrary". He seems inclined to disagree on what is expected. He is scared of leashes, but loves to cutely gallop around the yard, hence a fenced yard is a requirement for him. Bert is the Karen/Chad of the dog world. He monitors the household. And he will remind you what he expects. The favorite place for him to sit is on your feet. Bert will need a experienced owner. He has a history of bladder stones so he requires a prescription diet to keep them at bay. Bert is not a cuddly pet, life for him will only be on his terms. **WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS ON BERT WHO FIT HIS NEEDS. No first time dog owners, no homes with kids, fenced yard required, no apartments**. Bert is a male Lhasa Apso, weighs 25 lbs and was born approximately 12-17-14. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease & started on preventative. Adoption fee is $50 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs.
